I’m Vourneen – a travel loving, Christmas obsessed, ukulele playing blogger!

Welcome to European Day Trips, your ultimate resource for exploring the best of Europe in a day.

If you’re limited with your annual leave, but want to see as much as Europe as possible on a short visit, I’ve got you covered. While we’d all love to be able to take our time and fully explore each country, sometimes we don’t have that luxury. That thing called ‘work’ gets in the way (insert eye roll here).

But just because you only have a day or two to spare, doesn’t mean you can’t experience the culture, cuisine (I’m talking about you, Italy), and beauty of Europe.

Here are three fun facts about me:

Where I’ve Been:

Hungary

Its capital, Budapest, serves as an excellent starting point for numerous day trips – from the charming town of Szentendre to Miskolc with its remarkable cave bath, and even extending to other European countries.

A bustling street in Madrid lined with ornate buildings, leading to the prominent Telefónica Building under a bright blue sky with scattered clouds. The scene captures the lively urban atmosphere with cars and buses on the road.

Spain

Exploring major Spanish cities like Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville offers one perspective, but the true essence of Spain unfolds in its quaint towns and villages. These smaller locales represent the heart and soul of the country, offering authentic Spanish experiences.

Portugal

Home of delicious Pastel de Nata and some of the nicest people you’ll meet, Portugal is one of the best countries in Europe for day trips – from historic cities to stunning beach towns to fairytale villages.

Finland

Known as the land of a thousand lakes, Finland, set in the northern reaches of Europe, offers both a wonderful retreat into nature as well as the lively cities like Helsinki.

The Emerald Isle is my home country. But anyone can agree it’s a beautiful country with spectacular coastal views, quaint villages and lively bars. As it’s a small country, it’s easy to hop on a bus or train or drive yourself out of the cities for amazing day trips at any given moment.
